MetaVUE is an 'Inquiry Only' Geographic Information System (GIS) that is based on MetaMAP. With this system, the user can view, query, report, and plot or print data generated by MetaMAP. MetaVUE has all the capabilities of MetaMAP which do not involve creating, editing, deleting, or translating data. MetaVUE can be linked via ODBC to external non-graphic databases, including Access, XBase, Oracle, and others.
Case Study: Columbus Police Department
The Columbus Police Department Helicopter Division is the first police agency in the country to implement a complete detailed GIS in their police helicopters. Using MetaVUE, which is interfaced with an on-board global positioning satellite (GPS) system, they can navigate to specific addresses, and use the system as a moving map when engaged in chases and surveillance. The pilot and observer have unprecedented access to mapping details, such as building footprints, road edges, rivers, streams, catch basins, poles, fire hydrants, topography, and high-resolution aerial photography. The system can literally put addresses on the roofs of the buildings, and provide accurate navigation information to a specific address.

Due to using the efficient MetaMAP data format, MetaVUE also has capabilities as a mobile GIS product. MetaVUE can be customized with data from a city or county to provide parcel-based searches for police departments or emergency services.
