GIS Data Access Information

The Franklin County Auditor's office releases their Geographic Information System (GIS) Data on compact disc (CD) in MetaMAP CD format quarterly. This allows the use of the Auditor's mapping data on an ordinary PC, which previously could only be accessed on expensive workstations by trained users. Convenient access to this data is extremely valuable to the business community and government agencies in the Franklin County area. Very few, if any, other communities in the world have the tools for widespread access of the individual user to the complete GIS of their local government, at a reasonable cost.
The MetaMAP format includes the graphic information (the digital map), as well as the attached non-graphic data (parcel data, etc.). All the data is on one CD, which is available from the Franklin County Auditor's office for approximately $40.00. With MetaMAP and MetaVUE, the Auditor's non-graphic parcel data search files can be extracted to the user's hard disk, which requires approximately 90MB. MetaMAP and MetaVUE software will take a maximum of 10MB for a total of 100MB. The 650+ megabytes of mapping data is accessed directly from the CD.
MetaMAP, Inc. offers three Windows-based PC software products which will directly access the Franklin County data on the CD. A detailed chart of some of the features of the three products can be found below.
MetaMAP ®

MetaMAP is a full-function PC-Based GIS. This system is used by many utility companies and government agencies, including the Franklin County Auditor. With MetaMAP, the user can add and maintain their own data layers and use them in conjunction with the Franklin County GIS data. MetaMAP also includes several graphic and non-graphic translators (DXF, Arc/Info Export Format, TIGER, ETAK, dBase, FoxPro). A Franklin County CD user interface similar in functionality to the PC terminals in the County Auditor Map Room is supplied on request at no charge to MetaMAP users. |
MetaVUE ™
|
MetaVUE is an "inquiry only" version of MetaMAP. With this system, the user can view, query, report, and plot or print the Franklin County data. MetaVUE has all the capabilities of MetaMAP which do not involve creating, editing, deleting, or translating data. MetaVUE can be linked to external non graphic databases such as dBase or FoxPro. A Franklin County CD user interface similar in functionality to the PC terminals in the County Auditor Map Room is supplied on request at no charge to MetaVUE users. |
MapVUE ®
| MapVUE is a product which accesses geographic and parcel infomation. The software provided enables users to access tax maps and related data on their own PC. The user interface is comparable in functionality to the public access terminals (PC) in the Franklin County Auditor Map Room. The data is "seamless" to the user, so no edge-matching is needed. The user can view and print areas up to approximately 5000 feet or "zoom-in" to a single parcel. MapVUE includes the software and Franklin County Data all on one CD, so it is not necessary to purchase the data from the Auditor. To order MapVUE for Franklin County, OH, click here. |
